Lolita the Whale - Sign Her Petition!

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

You may or may not have seen the recent SAAB commercial featuring the song “Release Me” by Swedish band Oh Laura. It features a whale alone in the Miami Seaquarium - the lyrics reading “a glass of water longing for the ocean”.

If you haven’t seen the advert, you can view this in the video below:

The whale in the advert is called Lolita. She has been in captivity in a tank that barely houses her for nearly 40 years. I have written her story in my online weblog. Please view her story and sign the petition to free her. The petition is being delivered by hand in July so there isn’t much time!

You can also view Lolita’s story in the video below:

Stolen Pomeranian

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Cherry, a 6lb orange female Pomeranian was stolen out of my car, while still in her airline carrier. She is very friendly, with a shorter fluffy coat that doesn’t lay flat. Her tail fur is not long and she wags her tail a lot - the fur poofs up.

She had her teeth cleaned in December and should still have the remains of a shaved spot on her right front leg from the IV.
She was not wearing a collar but she is AVID microchipped.

If you have any information relating to the theft of Cherry, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Animals Matter To Me

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Just to bring to attention once again WSPA’s Animals Matter To Me campaign whereby they are asking for signatures to petition for International protection for animals. The full story can be seen by clicking on the above link.
Many animals are suffering all over the world at the hands of humans, for farming, for medicine, for many different reasons.

WSPA are attempting to attract as many signatures as they can, so they can approach governments and make change. Can you help?

PETA Campaign: Merino Wool

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Singer Pink and PETA have spoken out about mutilation and unethical treatment of Sheep in Australia. PETA’s campaign Save the Sheep.com details the suffering of Sheep for the farming of wool, and how the Sheep are mutilated by having chunks of skin and flesh ripped away from their bodies and are given no pain relief. PETA have posted a video detailing the practice.

Sheep that do not provide enough wool are transported in horrific conditions and are then slaughtered inhumanely in open air markets.

The campaign is asking consumers to check labels on items of clothing before buying. They urge people who see clothes made from wool either in Australia or containing the Merino wool label to not buy these products.

Boy Falls into Gorilla Enclosure

Monday, January 15th, 2007

This video is fantastic. A young boy falls into the gorilla enclosure at a zoo, knocking him unconscious. A large male gorilla goes over to the boy, and protectively watches over him and strokes him, protecting him from the other gorillas.

Gorillas have to be one of my all time favourite animals. They are so intelligent and have so much appeal, such a shame humans have forced them to the brink of extinction. Any Gorilla fans should check out the Going Ape series which is on Animal Planet at the moment, I think it’s Mondays or Tuesdays around 10pm.

Also, check out ITV: Extinct. A campaign attempting to save certain species from extinction, some dangerously close :(.
