Pet Care

Pet Detectives was formed to not only help and protect animals in need, but to offer pet care advice on all aspects of pet ownership. We believe that pets have as much right to warmth, food, shelter and love as you or I. Pet care is an essential part of pet ownership. You must ensure that pets have a suitable diet, and dogs should receive the right amount of exercise – a factor that varies depending on the breed of dog. Owners should seek the advice of their vet or breeder with regard to the amount of exercise a pet needs.

Pet care can be broken down into a few areas, but pet owners should be aware, pet care is not confined solely to these areas, and should always consider the well being of their pet in everything they do.

The first area of pet care is health care. Pet care can be expensive. If your pet becomes sick or injured, it is incredibly important that your pet receives treatment. Pet insurance is always a good idea, to ensure that you are covered. An operation can run from hundreds up to thousands of pounds.

Another area of pet care is food and shelter. We have come across many situations where a pet has not been properly cared for. With the animal being left in unsecured accommodation with little in the way of food or water. Whilst being illegal, this is not an acceptable way to care for an animal. Animals need a warm bed to sleep in and secure housing to live in. Water should always be provided and meal times should be as regular as possible.

It is important that puppies and kittens receive adequate amounts of sleep at regular intervals. It is an incredibly exciting time when you you first take in your puppy or kitten into your home, and children especially can be very excitable and will love nothing more that to play with the puppy or kitten. Play times should be controlled so that they are able to rest, and it is an important part of pet care to ensure your puppy or kitten can rest when they need to so they thay are able to grow and develop properly.

Pet owners should look into neutering and spaying their pet. This will often calm down an animal and can help reduce aggressive behaviour or straying in the case of cats. People often consider neutering an animal to be cruel, but it can also be seen as cruel not to neuter, as animals will want to mate but will not be able to. We believe neutering an animal is essential pet care and advise owners to seek the advice of their individual vets for more advice.

To us, pet care is about keeping your animal from harm, and therefore it is our opinion that dogs should always be kept on the lead along busy roads. Many dogs are very streetwise, but it only takes one incident to happen and you dog could be hurt or even worse killed.
